English college professor, divorcée, and mother of two, Leda Caruso (Olivia Colman) travels to a small seaside town in Greece for vacation after her daughters leave for Canada to be with their father. While at the beach, Leda takes notice of Nina (Dakota Johnson) and her daughter, as she remembers her time with her own daughters, leaving her sad and uneasy. When Nina’s daughter loses her doll, Leda becomes more involved with the two of them, bringing forth dark memories, forcing Leda to face her unsettling past.
