Grocery store clerk Jan Vokes (Toni Collette) is bored with her life. When she hears Howard Davies (Damian Lewis) talking about a racehorse he once owned, it makes her stop and think. Wanting to have something exciting in her life, something to look forward to, she decides to breed a racehorse. In order to raise the cash to buy the horse, she comes with a plan to get 20 people in her village together. She figures if they each put 10 pounds in every week, they’ll have enough in two years. When the foal is born, Jan is thrilled by his beauty and decides to call him Dream Alliance. Even though there’s less than a one percent chance their horse will ever win a race, he brings hope and excitement to the village, especially as he grows and begins to show promise. Based on the true story, as seen in the 2015 documentary Dark Horse.
